You can back it up using Samsung Cloud. Data is something that you don't loose now a days. You've to be careful about the app data which are stored locally and not synced to cloud.

Interesting! I've had the update the day it released, I've not seen any difference in performance or heating. It is same as it was.I was prepared such a thing might happen for which I'd planned to factory reset. Didn't need that though.
